Beaver Lodge

In partnership with Platte Basin Timelapse and the Crane Trust, a modified security camera captures a beaver lodge in the Central Platte River Valley. The images and videos give us an up-close glimpse of beaver behaviors, lodge modifications, and the activity of numerous species that use this structure for basking, preening, socializing, feeding, and hunting.

Research conducted by former lab member Simon Tye looked at daily and seasonal activity of animals visiting the lodge over a nine month period. In addition to beaver, the study found over 28 species using the lodge, including otter (Lontra canadensi), muskrat (Ondatra zibethicu), Great horn owl (Bubo virginianus), egrets, and turtles.
